Hans Nielsen, called "Former"
Hans Former Nielsen (*1941) started an apprenticeship at Poul Rasmussen's workshop when he was fifteen years old. For ten years he was working for W. Ø. Larsen in Copenhagen. After that he established and lead a pipe manufactory in Switzerland. Former Hans Nielsen finally moved to Germany, where he spent a short period of time in Hamburg. His way led him back to Denmark, where he lives and works with his family, inspired by the rural countryside.
Nowadays Hans Former Nielsen is one of the most prominent and leading pipemakers in the world. His pipes are much in demand worldwide and achieve very high prices. Because of the accuracy and precision of his work and his creative talent, his colleagues gave him the loving nickname „Former“ years ago.
It is known that he never increased his production, even though his foreign agents begged him to. He always referred that he would not be able keep the high level of his work, if he increased his yearly output. In the Far East and the USA his pipes enjoy cult status and achieved the highest prices in the High Grade sector.
